Universidad Autónoma del Caribe

Journal Encuentros was founded on April 1, 2003, and has since been published semiannually. It focuses on receiving articles and publishing them with a holistic view of social, educational, and cultural issues from the perspective of Social and Human Sciences.

Scope and Focus

Journal Encuentros positions itself as an interdisciplinary academic space dedicated to critical analysis and reflection on social and cultural transformations in the 21st century. With a particular focus on the intersection of communication, technology, education, and social justice, it aims to contribute to understanding contemporary challenges in both local and global contexts.

Its goal is to disseminate research addressing emerging issues such as:

  • The digitization of society and its impact on communication and education.
  • The role of media in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • The adaptation of educational and communication policies in a post-pandemic world.
  • Critical analysis of media discourses and their influence on public perception.

Areas of Interest:

  • Communication and Technology: Study of new forms of media interaction and their impact on society.
  • Education and Society: Pedagogical innovations, educational challenges in the digital age, and education for peace.
  • Culture and Social Change: Analysis of contemporary cultural phenomena and their relation to identity and social cohesion.
  • Politics and Media: Analysis of political and media discourse in contexts of polarization and conflict.

Target Audience

Professionals, researchers, teachers, and students in the fields of social, human, and communication sciences, as well as stakeholders interested in the impact of media and technology on society.

Publication Ethics Committee

Journal Encuentros adheres to the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This implies a commitment to academic integrity, transparency, and fairness in manuscript evaluation. Authors, reviewers, and editors must follow ethical guidelines at all stages of the publication process, ensuring the originality of works and respecting intellectual property. Any conflict of interest or case of misconduct will be addressed according to the procedures established by COPE.

Statement on Ethics and Good Practices for Publications

Journal Encuentros of the Universidad Autónoma del Caribe is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We are committed to ensuring the integrity of research and transparency in the editorial process.

Responsibilities of the Authors:

  • Submit original works, avoiding plagiarism and duplicate publication.
  • Properly acknowledge sources and contributions from other authors.
  • Disclose any conflict of interest that may influence the results.
  • Ensure the originality of their manuscripts and correctly cite all sources.
  • Refrain from submitting the same article to more than one journal simultaneously.
  • Disclose any conflict of interest that may influence the interpretation of the results.
  • Keywords in Spanish, English, and Portuguese should be consulted in the Thesaurus.

Responsibilities of the Reviewers:

  • Conduct impartial, confidential, objective, and constructive evaluations, respecting the confidentiality of manuscripts.
  • Inform the editor of any potential conflict of interest.
  • Notify the editor if any type of plagiarism or misconduct is detected in the reviewed manuscript.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Committee:

  • Ensure the integrity of the peer review process.
  • Effectively respond to any suspicion of misconduct in publication.
  • Investigate any suspicion of misconduct or plagiarism, acting promptly and fairly.

Any breach of these standards will be addressed rigorously to preserve the quality and credibility of the journal.

Submission Fee. Journal Encuentros does not charge for the publication of articles.

Peer Review Process

All articles submitted to Journal Encuentros undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to ensure objectivity and impartiality in the evaluation.

  1. Initial Review: The editorial team reviews each manuscript to verify that it meets basic formatting and thematic requirements.
  2. Assignment of Reviewers: Manuscripts that pass the initial review are assigned to two external reviewers who are experts in the article's subject matter.
  3. Reviewer Evaluation: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript in terms of originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and contribution to the field of study. They also identify possible errors and suggest improvements.
  4. Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' reports, the editor makes a decision on the manuscript: accept, accept with modifications, revise and resubmit, or reject.
  5. Author Revision: If changes are requested, authors must respond to the reviewers' comments and submit a revised version of the manuscript.
  6. Final Decision: The revised manuscript is evaluated again, and if it meets all requirements, it is accepted for publication.

This process ensures the academic quality and rigor of the articles published in Journal Encuentros.
