Health Innovation: A Review of The Scientific Literature from The Past Decade

The use of innovation in the health sector has spread widely in the past decades, with the objective of disseminating new knowledge for the managers of organizations that facilitate the generation of appropriate strategies to face the challenges that arise in the actual context regarding sustainability, accessibility and universal health coverage. In this article a literature review was done on the topic of innovation in health which integrates the medical perspective with that other sciences with the purpose of identify consensus and divergence the conceptualization health innovation, identifying at contributes to the process that necessary for innovation development in health organizations and finally identifying research trends about health innovation. The main results show the need for a deeper understanding of the theoretical and empirical research in the identification of practices and tools that facilitate the implementation of innovation in the health sector in order to transform the sector into one which is dynamic, profitable and human center.
Resumen
El uso de innovaciones en el sector salud se han difundido ampliamente en las últimas décadas, con el objetivo de entregar nuevo conocimiento para los directivos de las organizaciones que permita generar estrategias adecuadas para enfrentar los retos que plantea el contexto actual en cuanto a sostenibilidad, accesibilidad y cobertura universal del servicio de salud. En este artículo se realiza una revisión de literatura sobre el tópico innovación en salud, la cual integra la perspectiva médica con la perspectiva de otras ciencias, con el propósito de identificar consensos y divergencias en la conceptualización de la innovación en salud, identificar aportes sobre el proceso necesario para desarrollar innovaciones en las organizaciones de salud y finalmente, identificar tendencias investigativas sobre el tópico. Los principales resultados evidencian la necesidad de profundizar desde la perspectiva teórica y empírica en la identificación de prácticas y herramientas que faciliten la implementación de la innovación en el sector salud, para transformarlo en un sector dinámico, rentable y humanizado.
Resumo
O uso das inovações no setor de saúde tem-se difundido amplamente nas últimas décadas, com o objetivo de entregar novo conhecimento para os diretores das organizações, que permita gerar estratégias adequadas para enfrentar os desafios que apresenta o contexto atual quanto a sustentabilidade, acessibilidade e cobertura universal do serviço em saúde. Neste artigo realiza-se uma revisão da literatura sobre o tópico inovação em saúde, a qual integra a perspectiva médica com a perspectiva de outras ciências, com o propósito de identificar consensos e divergências na conceitualização da inovação em saúde, identificar aportes sobre o processo necessário para desenvolver inovações nas organizações de saúde e finalmente, identificar tendências investigativas sobre o tópico. Os principais resultados evidenciam a necessidade de aprofundar, segundo uma perspectiva teórica e empírica, a identificação de práticas e ferramentas que facilitem a implementação da inovação no setor de saúde, para transformá-lo em um setor dinâmico, rentável e humanizado.
