Abstract

Abstract.

For this research, the tungsten carbide coatings were deposited by the thermal spraying technique with an oxyacetylene flame on high-speed steel substrates, in order to improve wear resistance. For the deposit, a high-speed steel was used as a substrate and as a coating commercial tungsten carbide powders reference Eutalloy 10112, which were characterized to identify: composition, microstructure, properties and thermal behavior. The coating was deposited with a CastoDyn DS 8000 equipment, oxidizing flame and projection distance of 140 mm, to analyze aspects such as morphology, thickness and porosity by scanning electron microscopy, adhesion with a pull off test, composition with an X-ray diffraction and hardness with a Vickers-type indenter micro-durometer. To evaluate the resistance of the coating, tribological tests were carried out by pin on disk equipment, the parameters implemented in the test were: 15 and 20 N for travel distances of 500 and 300 m.
