Abstract

Handicrafts in the Caribbean region are a living expression of the history and culture of its communities. However, the lack of recognition has put the continuity of these traditions at risk, affecting artisans and hindering the transmission of ancestral techniques. The National Beauty Contest of Colombia, as a platform to highlight cultural diversity, has been key in showcasing representative handmade garments. Inspired by the writings of Amira de la Rosa, the question arose: How can the handicraft techniques of the Caribbean region be made visible through the use of sustainable ma- terials in designing an artisanal garment for Miss Caribbean Region 2024? The creative process integrated traditional techniques with sustainable materials, emphasizing the connection to the sea and artisanal tradition. The result is a creation that symbolizes regional identity and pride.
