Environmental impact of the operation of the slaughterhouse of the city of Puyo, Pastaza, Ecuador

Abstract

The slaughterhouse are the most polluting meat industry facilities. The objective of this document is to analyze the environmental impact of the municipal slaughterhouse, in the city of Puyo, Ecuadorian Amazonia. The identification and evaluation of impacts was carried out with a network diagram and the Leopold matrix. Eleven significant assessment activities were obtained which interact with seven components of the physical, biotic and socio-economic and cultural factors, with a total of 32 interactions with a significant degree of impact for environmental effects. The main environmental aspects of the municipal road of the city of Puyo are the discharge of wastewater and solid waste, generated by manure and the slaughter of animals where a large amount of bones, fat and skin is generated, the expense is also considered of energy that is significant throughout the process and the presence of vectors. The most important impact identified was the generation of wastewater, associated with high organic loads, so it is important to take corrective measures that in the environmental management plan that are capable of mitigating, preventing and monitoring the negative impacts they are generated.
