Abstract

Una de las principales fuentes para el desarrollo de las naciones ha sido la explotación de sus propios recursos naturales, ya sea para su propio consumo o, como en la mayoría de casos, para su comercialización en pro de beneficios económicos. Un país geográficamente privilegiado como Colombia, también basa su economía en la comercialización de los recursos naturales con los que
cuenta. Un estudio reciente de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia permite ver que el 95% del ingreso de divisas al país provenían de la comercialización de productos tales como: petróleo, gas, carbón, coltán, café, flores, banano, entre otros; tan solo el 5% restante de las divisas eran generadas a partir del desarrollo de valor agregado a productos manufacturados o procesados sofisticadamente. Es evidente que gran parte de los productos que se explotan en el país son no renovables, lo que obliga a replantear desde ahora las estrategias de subsistencia económica, pensando en un futuro viable para la nación.
