Nanotechnology has reached a significant level during the last decades thanks to the efforts of disciplines such as: physics, electronics, biochemistry, molecular and computational chemistry, molecular biology, medicine, statistics, computer science and mathematics among other areas of knowledge. The objective of the study is to describe statistically the evolution in the number of publications and citations in neurosciences worldwide in the last twenty-five years, based on the SCImago Journal Country Rank portal. The study is of a longitudinal descriptive nature, where the number of publications and citations was evaluated. The multivariate technique of variance MANOVA was used, with orthogonal canonical contrast. China leads the scientific production in the area of nanosciences and nanotechnology, followed by the United States of America. A statistical difference between world regions was detected when performing the multivariate analysis of variance, where Asia has the highest productivity, showing divergence with respect to the other regions. Africa and Latin America are the regions with the lowest academic productivity in the area under study. It is concluded that there is a large gap between developed and developing nations in relation to the subject.
