Abstract

A faculty of agricultural sciences in Colombia, initiated a process to determine initiatives for preparing an institutional strategic plan, oriented towards the improvement of its mission and the achievement of academic excellence in its four undergraduate curricular programmes: agronomical engineering; agricultural engineering; forestry engineering; and animal science. As a result of the activities performed by the management team, the need to perform a prospective analysis in each curricular programme was considered the most important initiative, with a view to updating and modernising each of them. This way, prospective workshops were held during 2016 and 2017 with the faculty staff, in which the following stages of prospective analysis were performed: contextualisation; identification of analysis elements; prioritisation and synthesis; determination of scenarios; and formulation of objectives relevant to the priority elements. After the presentation of the reports, a cross-sectional analysis of the results was carried out, allowing the preparation of a proposal for the management system oriented at creating training value, considering the most relevant elements mentioned by the participants in the workshops and included in a system of activities. The findings indicated that prospective exercises could contribute both to the process of formulating the strategy and the deployment of the strategy in the structural design for generating value in the university context.
