Technological advances in telecommunications have provided more robust services in the data transmission process, having a better bandwidth. In this article, the analysis of an optical system using frequency division multiplexing (FDM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) techniques is exposed, in a standard single-mode optical fiber of 50KM in length, with attenuation of the 0.22 dB / KM fiber and 0.22 dB attenuation in couplings every 2KM. The performance of the optical communication system is observed by making a comparison between FDM and OFDM. Modulation error rate and magnitude error measurement are used as evaluative parameters. It is concluded that, when working with high frequencies, the FDM constellation diagram is not efficient, therefore it presents points in which the bit frame does not arrive, indicating a significant loss in information. For this reason, the best multiplexing model for data traffic at high frequencies is OFDM multiplexing, since it presents an EVM error of 28.3%, in addition to its peak and average values reaching -10.3 dB.
