Abstract

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have come to revolutionize the world, and even more the educational processes; in this sense they mark a differentiating factor in the levels of competitiveness of a society.  In view of the above, this review article was developed with the aim of analysing the way in which these new tools are integrated into higher education, while at the same time observing the challenges, advantages and limitations of their application.  For the above, a documentary review was elaborated through the deep study of related scientific articles and documented in the most relevant databases, having as base a qualitative approach to facilitate to the observer the contextualization of the main aspects of the investigation.  Among the main findings are the great contributions provided by the implementation of ICT in training processes, insofar as it not only facilitates student learning, but also promotes the development of useful skills for subsequent professional development.  Based on this, the Colombian government has been devoting great efforts to its incorporation into the national society, for which its results and pending challenges in this regard are analyzed.
