Labor profile of venezuelans migrants in Colombia- 2019

Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the labor participation of Venezuelan migrants, who recently arrived in Colombia. For this purpose, we made a comparison of socioeconomic characteristics between the natives and Venezuelans migrants. Data came from the Colombian Household Surveys (by its acronym in Spanish, GEIH), first half of 2019. The stylized facts demonstrated that 59,3% of Venezuelan migrants were working. Nevertheless, 9 out of 10 Venezuelan workers had not social security. Therefore, 92% of Venezuelan migrants had informal employment. It could be relevant to apply public policies that help migrants to link up in formal employment, according to their skills.
